Every so often, I come across a piece of music, or a song, that just really hits me. Today, I was listening to some music that doesn’t get enough attention on my iPod, and “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” from Phantom of the Opera played. Though I did not shed a tear, I was crying. The music, her voice, the words, it is all just so perfect.
So, here are the lyrics that have affected me so much.
You were once my one companion
You were all that mattered
You were once a friend and father
Then my world was shattered
Wishing you were somehow here again
Wishing you were somehow near
Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed
Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could here your voice again
Knowing that I never would
Dreaming of you helped me to do
All that you dreamed I could
Passing bells and sculpted angels, cold and monumental
Seem for you the wrong companion, you were warm and gentle
Too many years
Fighting back tears
Why can’t the past just die!
Wishing you were here again
Knowing we must say goodbye
Try to forgive
Teach me to live
Give me the strength to try!
No more memories
No more silent tears
No more gazing across the wasted years
Help me say goodbye
Help me say goodbye!
By far one of the best pieces of music. I’ve heard it before and didn’t think much of it, but I think that what’s happened to me relationship-wise recently has influenced me. Simply put, niether of us wanted to end it, but we both knew that it was best. And though that relationship was short, and the song speaks of years, I feel as though it could have lasted for years.
The emotion expressed in this song just strung a heart chord, and I had to say something.
